The story revolves around a death of a young girl Lynne Peterson (Kristen Vigard). This incident has broken down her family into pieces. The grief is so immense because it is not a natural death but an accident caused by rash driving done by a drunk driver which has taken away her life. Her father John Peterson (James Farentino) is determined to give justice to his daughter’s death. But all his efforts are going in vain as he is not able to prove the killer guilty. The judge too has no proof to send the culprit to jail. John is totally broken his wife Judith (Penny Fuller) and younger daughter Amy (Ari Meyers) are also totally lost in the grief. Finally John comes in to contact with a very capable lawyer Martin Sawyer (Denzel Washington) who ultimately help them to get out of this trauma and gives them justice
