The final episode in the series has Los Angeles detectives Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) embroiled in the Triads from China. Riggs' lover and fiancee Lorna Cole (Rene Russo) is expecting their first child, and they are staying on Murtaugh's boat when a shipload of illegal immigrants from China crashes in the L. A. harbor. Murtaugh takes one family from the ship into his care while the duo work on tracking down who is responsible for their being in the U. S. This brings them into direct conflict with 'Uncle Benny' Chan (Kim Chan), the local gang leader, and Wah Sing Ku (Jet Li), who have brought at least one of the immigrants over for a very special purpose. Assisting them is Detective Lee Butters (Chris Rock), who has married Murtaugh's daughter, and who are also expecting their first child, but neither of them has yet to tell it to Murtaugh. Also returning is Leo Getz (Joe Pesci), who is now a licensed private investigator.
