The work of Dr. Mirakle (Bela Lugosi) is never done in Paris of 1845. Working out of a carnival, he has higher ambitions. He must try to find a compatible woman to be the bride of his pet ape. Kidnapping young women who are street walkers (Arlene Francis) proves to be his undoing. Injected with ape blood, they are simply unable to mate with his simian. With his bizarre, apparently albino assistant, Janos (Noble Johnson), Mirakle begins to fill the morgue with bodies of experimental failures. When he settles on Camille (Sidney Fox), she has the protection of her medical student boyfriend Pierre (Leon Waycof, aka Leon Ames), but Mirakle’s ape becomes obsessed with the beautiful girl and wants to share his ape glands with her.
