Justin Pendleton (Michael Pitt) and Richard Haywood (Ryan Gosling) are just too smart for their own good in this supspense filled thriller. Did one of the two murder a girl without any reason other than boredom? Did they both murder her together and have a plan from the outset by which they would commit the "perfect murder"? Cassie Mayweather (Sandra Bullock) wants to know and as the homicide detective on the case, Cassie intends to find out. Her new partner Sam Kennedy (Ben Chaplin) gets to watch her work as he untangles the terrible secrets in Cassie's past that drive her to find this girl's killer at all costs.
