Ed Pekurny (Matthew McConaughey) is a hapless video store clerk. When his brother Ray Pekurny (Woody Harrelson) auditions for a reality show where your life is broadcasted 24 hours a day, Ed ends up winning. Thinking that it would be a cool thing to do, and wanting the money the station is offering, Ed agrees. Soon, he is a world-wide celebrity. The show’s producer, Cynthia Topping (Ellen DeGeneres), is secretly making events happen in Ed’s life that make the show’s ratings go up. During his celebrity, Ed ends up coupling with his brother’s girlfriend, Shari (Jenna Elfman). He is in love with her, but she is very camera shy. Before long, the paparazzi is stalking the entire Pekurny clan and there seems to be no way out of the deal for ED.
