The film is a biographical sketch of Joan of Arc (Mila Jovovich), set in the background of Anglo-French Hundred Years War of 15th century. Joan was an extremely religious young girl, who gets lead by a heavenly Conscience (Dustin Hoffman). After seeing the English destroying her hometown and brutally murdering and raping her sister, with the advise of the Conscience, she meets Charles the Dauphin (John Malkovich) and requests him to give her a chance to lead the French army to fight the English. Though skeptical, The Dauphin in a helpless condition, gives her a try. And, Joan ferociously fights the English army and rids Orleans and Reims from the English. This enables the Dauphin to be crowned without any hassles. But, the jealous Dauphin who thought that Joan could become a threat to himself too, jails Joan and ultimately sentences her to be burnt alive.
