Lassie Come Home follows the adventures of Joe Carraclough (Roddy McDowall), a Yorkshire schoolboy and his rough collie Lassie. It is the era of the Depression, and Joe’s parents are hit by hard times, forced to sell their beloved family dog to the rich Duke of Rudling (Nigel Bruce), who has always admired her and has the dog in mind as a gift for his granddaughter Priscilla (Elizabeth Taylor). Now thousands of miles away in distant Scotland, Lassie soon escapes the Duke’s confines and sets off on a remarkable journey across the world, enduring many perils along the way, in the hopes of being joyfully reunited with Joe.
