Hairspray (2007) focuses on 1960s Baltimore teen, Tracy Turnblad, and her quest to make the cast of a local television dance program 'The Corny Collins Show'. After hearing a message from the show's star, Link Larkin (Zac Efron), Tracy decides to go to the auditions, with the ultimate goal of winning Link as her boyfriend. Tracy's parents Edna (John Travolta) and Wilbur (Christopher Walken) are divided over whether their daughter should face the hash criticism that comes from being on television. At the television station, manager Velma von Tussle (Michelle Pfeiffer) rejects Tracy's application due to her positive views on racial integration, and Tracy is then sent to detention for cutting class to audition. A series of events involving a black boy teaching Tracy a dance abd Link seeing her dance in detention lead Tracy to a spot on The Corny Collins Show, along with assorted fame in Baltimore. Tracy then participates in a anti-segregation march and winds up on the run from the law, while at the same time, Link is declaring his love for her, regardless of what his manager Velma thinks about Tracy and her views. The film culminates with the Teenage Hairspray pageant on television, with Tracy competing against Link's old girlfriend Amber, among other girls.
