The true story of Ken Carter (Samuel L. Jackson) who transformed a high school basketball team into men of honor. He takes a team full of players who have no ambitions past the basketball court, and teaches them to succeed both on and off the basketball court. He requires a GPA higher than the state mandate, that ties to be worn on game days and complete integrity in all aspects of their lives. His own son (Robert Ri'chard) transfers from an elite private school to join his father at Richmond High. Midway through the season and undefeated, he learns that most of the team is failing in one or more subjects. Coach Carter locks the gym doors, replaces practices with tutorials and forfeits all games until his players are passing in school, a move which results in heat from the school board and parents associations.
