Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) works as a limousine driver and takes Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly) to the airport. At the airport she leaves a briefcase in one of the terminals before she flies to Aspen. Lloyd sees this and rushes to return it to her thinking she has misplaced it. He misses her and he is left with the suitcase. He gets fired and his best friend Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) also gets fired on the same day from his job. They decide to drive to Aspen to return the suitcase to its rightful owner. Once in Aspen they discover that the briefcase is full of money and they live the high life in Aspen with the money while they attempt to track down Mary Swanson.
