When juvenile delinquent and former gymnast Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym) is once again arrested, she is forced to enroll at an elite gymnastics academy in order to try and get her act together. Upon arriving at the academy, she does everything in her power to avoid actually having to train. Her horrible attitude and refusals to participate are made worse by her reputation in the sport, earned years earlier after having walked out on a former team during a competition, costing them a medal. Burt Vickerman, the coach and former Olympic gymnast himself, butts heads with Haley multiple times, finally reasoning with her about potential uses for the prize money from a win. Although she submits, her stubborn and rebellious nature persists and begins to have an influence on the other girls training at the academy. When the team makes it to a high-stakes competition only to be snubbed by the judges, Haley and her teammates invent an innovative protest against the arbitrary nature of the scoring system. Empowered by the results, Haley eventually comes to terms with the coach, her family, and with her own inner conflicts.
