Lucy Eleanor Moderatz (Sandra Bullock) sees her dream man everyday. Lucy is the token taker at the elevated train station that Peter Callaghan (Peter Callagher) passes through on his way to work. And Lucy has fallen in love with a man she doesn't even know. But all that changes one day when Peter is mugged and falls on the tracks in front of an oncoming train. Lucy jumps down and pulls him off the tracks just in time. The unconscious Peter is taken to the hospital in a coma. When Lucy visits Peter in the hospital, there is a mix-up and Peter's family thinks she is his fiancé. While Peter is still in a coma, Lucy spends Christmas with his family and meets Peter's brother Jack (Bill Pullman). Eventually Peter awakes but has amnesia. It looks like Lucy finally has her dream man but now she isn't sure she still wants him.
