In this enjoyable remake of the 1976 classic, Morris Buttermaker (Billy Bob Thornton) is a washed up, drunken former ballplayer. Though he's now a professional exterminator, Buttermaker finds time to coach a ragtag bunch of boys all the way to the top. Buttermaker's irresponsibility and womanizing provide great comedy, and so too does his uptight foil, Roy Bullock (Greg Kinnear). The 1976 version offered a great performance from Walter Mathau, and Billy Bob stays true to the shocking spirit of the original. Thornton essentially reprises his Bad Santa character here, but fans of misanthropic, innapropriate humor, as well as maverick anti-heroes, will love Bad News Bears.
