The movie begins with the depiction of sweet romance between the Samuel Faulkner's (Hugh Grant) and his girlfriend Rebecca Taylor (Julianne Moore). They were having a great romantic life together snuggling with each other happily. The child psychiatrist already frustrated with children, Samuel’s life gets devastated when one fine day they find out that Rebecca is pregnant. His love fades away in the spur of the moment as he refuses to accept the baby due to the fear of having children which is imposed in him by his friend (Jeff Goldblum), a skeptical artist by profession and a few other instances shown in the movie. Samuel drifts away from his love just because she was pregnant and Rebecca’s emotions breaks when she finds Samuel to be like this. The movie takes a twist when Samuel gets to see an ultrasound of his yet-to-be-born baby which melts him and he realizes his responsibility of a father. The depiction of the nine months of pregnancy gives the movie a perfect name which ends on a happy note.
