The new guy is a movie about a young high school senior named Dizzy Harrison (DJ Qualls) who tries to become cool. He begins high school life by attempting to make friends but immediately gets into trouble with the staff, thanks in part to meddling jocks. Harrison is misdiagnosed as having Tourette's Syndrome. After overdosing on his medication he embarks on various wacky adventures that place him in jail. A fellow inmate, Luther (Eddie Griffin), attempts to coach Dizzy in the art of "coolness". Their combined efforts result in Dizzy being expelled from high school. Dizzy enrolls in a new school and experiences an upsurge in popularity which is tempered by a lack of consideration for his old friends.
