Holly (Hillary Duff) is tired of moving every time her single mother Jean (Heather Locklear) breaks up with another loser boyfriend. In order for her family to settle in New York, Holly concocts a plan to set her mother up with the perfect man. She soon realizes that a perfect man doesn't exist and makes one up instead. Holly sends flowers and love notes to her mother disguised as Ben (Chris Noth), her perfect man. Her fictional Ben is based on her friend Amy's (Vanessa Lengies) romantically inclined Uncle of the same name. Holly must resort to desperate measures when Jean and the real Ben almost come into contact, spoiling her plan.
