An aspiring cartoonist, Tim Avery (Jamie Kennedy), has fallen on hard times. Stumbling upon a strange mask, he wears it out to a costume party, where it transforms him into the life of the party. Returning home, Avery and his wife engage in a romantic interlude which results in the conception of their son. Unknown to the couple, the baby, conceived while Avery was wearing the mask, inherits strange and unusual powers. After the child is born, Avery attempts to take care of him, but is surprised by his son's zany and shocking behavior. Meanwhile, the family dog, now displaced by the new arrival, himself stumbles upon the mask, and attempts to use its powers to oust the baby. The two battle in comical fashion, each using their respective powers. Eventually the god Loki makes an appearance, and demands the return of his mask, leading to a confrontation with Avery and Loki's own father, Odin.
