Sam (Burl Ives) a friendly snowman narrates the story of Rudolph (Billy Richards) who is born with a shiny red nose. His father Donner (Paul Kliggman) covers his nose, which fools everyone. Meanwhile Hermey (Paul Soles) is an elf that doesn’t like making toys. He wants to be a dentist, which is not allowed. While playing some reindeer games Rudolph's nose cover comes off, so he is not allowed to play. In embarrassment he decides to leave the Village of Santa Claus (Stan Francis). Because he wants to be a dentist and is not allowed to be in the village Hermey also leaves. Rudolph and Hermey find each other and go on their journey together. While wandering around the area they run into Yukon Cornelius (Larry Mann) a silver prospector who joins them while searching for silver. While on their Journey they run into the Abominable Snowman and wander to the Island of Misfits toys. Everyone eventually make it back to Santa’s village, but there is heavy fog and Santa will not be able to make it deliver the Christmas toys. Then he realizes that with Rudolphs bright nose leading the way he will be able to make it.
