Claire (Emma Roberts) and Hailey (Joana JoJo Levesque) are teenage girls and have been friends for years but Haily will be moving to Australia in a few weeks time. The girls are spending their time on beach and are attracted by the life guard, Raymond (Jake McDorman). After a stormy night they find a mermaid, Aquamarine (Sara Paxton) in the pool. Aquamarine has run away from her father, ocean to avoid an arranged marriage. And she falls in love with Raymond too. She asks Claire and Hailey to help her to find her love, and she will grant them a wish in return. The girls see this as a chance for Hailey to stay, so they set out to help her. Cecilia (Arielle Kebbel) tries to create mischief and at the end, Aquamarine returns to her own world.
