The Road to El Dorado is an animated film that starts in 16th century Catalonia (the region between France and Spain). Two wanted conmen, Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kenneth Branagh) win a map by cheating at a game of dice. The map supposedly shows the location of the lost city of gold in the new world, El Dorado. However, their cheating is uncovered and the duo find themselves as stowaways on Hernan Cortes fleet that is sailing to Mexico. Their real adventures begin when they escape from the ship, stealing Cortes’s favorite horse in the process, and discover the hidden city of El Dorado.
