The film "The Sandlot" is a family comedy. The film begins when Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) moves into a new neighborhood with his family. He is an outsider among the other children because of his terrible baseball skills, but the star athlete in the area Benny (Mike Vatar) befriends him and helps him gain acceptance. One day when the Scotty is out playing baseball with the other boys, he borrows his stepfather's Babe Ruth autographed ball, not knowing that it is a valuable collectible. Unfortunately, he hits the ball into the fenced in yard of Mr. Mertle (James Earl Jones) who owns a vicious dog known as 'The Beast' which forces the boys to find away to get the ball back before Scotty's stepfather realizes what has happened and without getting themselves killed by 'The Beast'.
